Bayern Edge Arsenal in First Leg of Women's Champions League Quarterfinal

Schüller's Goal Gives German Giants Advantage

Gunners Face Uphill Battle at Emirates

Bayern Munich gained a narrow 1-0 advantage over Arsenal in the first leg of their UEFA Women's Champions League quarterfinal on Tuesday. Lea Schüller's strike in the 22nd minute proved decisive as Arsenal squandered numerous chances to level the score.

The result leaves Arsenal with a challenging task when the two sides meet for the second leg at the Emirates Stadium on March 29. The Gunners will need to overturn the deficit and score at least twice without conceding in order to progress to the semi-finals.

Bayern dominated possession in the first half and created the better opportunities. Schüller opened the scoring with a clinical finish from a Lina Magull cross. Arsenal responded with increased urgency in the second half but could not find an equalizer. Vivianne Miedema and Caitlin Foord both had chances to score, but they failed to capitalize.

Arsenal manager Jonas Eidevall was disappointed with his team's performance. "We created enough chances to win the game," he said. "But we need to be more clinical in front of goal. We still have a chance in the second leg, but we will need to play much better."

Bayern Munich manager Jens Scheuer was delighted with his team's performance. "We played a very good game," he said. "We created a lot of chances and scored a goal. We are in a good position for the second leg."
